Round 1: Online Assessment
- Duration: 90 mins
- Platform: HackerRank
- Sections: CS Fundamentals (DBMS, OS, OOPs, Computer Networks), Aptitude, and 2 Coding Questions (String Manipulation and Tree Traversal).
Round 2: DSA & Problem Solving
- Duration: 60 mins
- Questions:
- Implement a LRU (Least Recently Used) Cache.
- Level Order Traversal of a Binary Tree in a spiral form.
- How to Answer: For LRU Cache, explicitly state why you need both a Doubly Linked List (for O(1) removals/additions) and a HashMap (for O(1) lookups). Drawing the nodes and arrows on the screen before coding helps prevent null pointer exceptions during edge cases.
Round 3: Low-Level Design & Java Internals
- Duration: 60 mins
- Questions: Design an Elevator System using Object-Oriented Principles. Then, deep dive into Java.
- How to Answer: Identify the core entities first (Elevator, Button, Floor, Dispatcher). Don't try to write perfect algorithms for elevator movement; focus on SOLID principles, Interfaces, and Encapsulation. For Java internals, be prepared to answer questions on the volatile keyword, Multithreading, and how ConcurrentHashMap works internally.
Round 4: Hiring Manager
- Duration: 45 mins
- Topics: Discussed my final year project (a full-stack web app). Asked how I would scale it if users went from 100 to 10,000.
- How to Answer: Fresher system design isn't about knowing Kafka or Kubernetes deeply. It's about basic scaling concepts: vertical vs horizontal scaling, adding a load balancer, and caching database queries.
Key Takeaways for Freshers
Oracle heavily relies on Java and robust object-oriented design. Make sure your OOPs concepts are crystal clear. Don't just learn syntax; learn how to architect scalable, modular code.
