Round 1: Aptitude + Coding Test

  • Duration: 120 mins
  • Platform: HackerRank
  • Sections: Quantitative Aptitude, CS Fundamentals MCQs, and 2 Coding Questions (Array manipulation + DP pathfinding).
  • Tip for students: GS aptitude is notorious for heavy probability, statistics, and P&C questions. Do not ignore math prep!

Round 2: CoderPad Interview

  • Duration: 45 mins
  • Questions:
    1. First non-repeating character in a string.
    2. Trapping Rain Water.
  • How to Answer: The interviewer can see your screen live as you type. Think out loud! I started with the O(N^2) approach for the rain water problem, then optimized to O(N) using two pointers. Make sure you name variables descriptively (e.g., 'leftMaxHeight', 'rightMaxHeight').

Round 3: Technical / HR

  • Duration: 45 mins
  • Questions: Deep dive into my resume. Asked about Java Garbage Collection internals, HashMap collision handling (Java 8 treeifying). Followed by 'Why Finance?' and 'Why Goldman Sachs?'

Key Takeaways for Freshers

For fintech companies, accuracy and edge-case handling are critical. Always explicitly mention to your interviewer how your code handles nulls, empty arrays, or integer overflows. Financial software cannot afford unhandled exceptions.
