Round 1: Online Assessment
- Duration: 90 mins
- Platform: HackerRank
- Questions: 3 questions (1 Easy Math, 1 Hard Graph, 1 Hard DP). I solved 2.5 and cleared the cutoff.
Round 2: Machine Coding (Elimination)
- Duration: 120 mins
- Task: Build a Cult.fit like Gym Slot Booking System entirely in-memory.
- Requirements: Users should be able to book, cancel, and view waitlists. Gym centers can add/remove slots. Code must be executable.
- My Approach: I used Java and tried to implement the Strategy Design Pattern for the waitlist allocation logic.
- Where I went wrong: I tightly coupled my 'User' and 'Booking' classes, making it difficult to extend when the interviewer asked for a follow-up feature (handling partial refunds). I also spent way too much time over-engineering the design patterns rather than getting a working MVP (Minimum Viable Product).
- How to Answer Machine Coding: Working Code > Perfect Architecture. Always get the basic requirements running first. The interviewer wants to see executable code that passes their test cases.
Key Takeaways for Freshers
Practice LLD (Low-Level Design) strictly within a 90-minute timer. Understand SOLID principles practically, not just theoretically. If your code doesn't compile at the end of the round, it's an automatic reject.
